Swivel Lock Assembly

CAST-LOCK

Why I put Swivel Locks on my carts:

When I started Corps Design, my daughter had just joined her high school band to play synth.  Unfortunately for me, her school district had recently made substantial equipment purchase through a big bond package that had recently passed, and they were not about to buy a synth cart from me even if it was for my kid.  There was no way in hell that I was going to allow my child play on a competitor’s cart.

So I donated a synth cart to the school.

I proceeded to pester my teenager about how she liked my cart and what could be improved.  I can still picture just how far back in her head her eyes rolled whenever I would bring it up.  After a coupla weeks, she eventually told me that the cart was hard to push in the direction she wanted it to go.

So I called up my caster guy.  I asked him, “What’s up with the wheels?  Are they not all the same size? Is it quality control? Are they cheap imports?”  He calmly answered. “No, nothing so nefarious.  Swivel casters will always follow the path of least resistance.  Have you tried a swivel lock?”  I asked him to send me a sample.  A few days later, one showed up in the mail.  I drove to the school and installed it.  I pushed the cart about 10 feet, then picked up the phone and ordered 200 of them.

A swivel lock will lock most swivel casters in one direction, at 0°, 90°, 180° or 270°.  This makes pushing a cart much easier simply because the cart will go where you want it to go.  Remember those venues that are 1/2 mile or more from the truck to the stadium?  The poor kid who has to push the cart will thank you profusely.  And when you get back to the truck, release the swivel lock to make loading easier.

Call me, and I’ll help you figure out if your existing carts and wheels are compatible.
